Chrysler Group’s Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 has been named one of Ward’s 10 Best Engines for the third consecutive year. But even in this elite group, the Pentastar rises to the top. While every other engine on the Ward’s 2013 list was tested in a car, mostly of the sporty variety, the DOHC Pentastar was evaluated in a truck – the 2013 Ram 1500 full-size pickup.

Cummins Inc. has produced its 2-millionth diesel engine for Ram Trucks, highlighting the latest milestone in a storied partnership that spans four decades. The 350-horsepower, 6.7-liter, in-line 6-cylinder turbo diesel is distinguished by its “Cummins Red” rocker cover and breather. But despite its 800 lb.-ft. peak torque rating, the historic engine – feted today at a Cummins plant in Columbus, Ind. – will not see service. Instead, it will go on display, touring the U.S.

Engineers got the green light to develop the Tigershark in May 2010. At that time, Chrysler Group’s shortest interval between program approval and production launch was about 115 weeks (for the 6.1-liter HEMI® V-8). Ninety-five weeks later, the company produced the first Tigershark engine, the company’s most refined 4-cylinder powerplant ever. How was this accomplished? The first eight-speed automatic transmission in a domestically produced automobile will mark its debut on both the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger for 2012. The new eight-speed automatic, introduced and licensed through ZF and often found on high-end luxury cars including Audi, Bentley, BMW, Range Rover and Rolls Royce, will be available on selected models of the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger. Initially, the transmission will be mated exclusively to the award-winning 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar engine that was introduced last year.

Chrysler Group LLC today announced that it would invest $114 million in new equipment at its Trenton Engine Complex to support increased production of the Pentastar engine. The investment is estimated to create 268 new jobs.

Chrysler Group LLC confirms that it is looking to invest $843 million into the Company’s existing transmission manufacturing facilities in Kokomo, Ind., to accommodate production of a new advanced front-wheel drive automatic transmission for future Chrysler Group vehicles. With this announcement, the Company’s total investment in U.S. facilities would climb to nearly $3 billion since June 2009.

Chrysler Group LLC and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced a partnership to determine the possibility of adapting a hydraulic hybrid system for large passenger cars and light-duty vehicles. The announcement was made at the EPA laboratories in Ann Arbor, Mich., following a meeting with Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler Group CEO, and Lisa P. Jackson, Agency Administrator for the EPA.

Improved fuel efficiency, more power and reduced emissions, all hallmarks of the new Pentastar V-6 engine, will soon be available across 13 models from Chrysler Group LLC. The Pentastar V-6, the most advanced six cylinder engine ever produced by Chrysler Powertrain group, is slated to be the ‘workhorse’ engine across many models and will eventually replace seven different V-6 engines over the next three years.
