Natural Gas Vehicles for America presented FCA US LLC the 2016 NGV Achievement Award, celebrating the Company’s $40 million investment to changeover all 179 Detroit-based parts-haulers to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) rather than traditional diesel. The move gave FCA US the largest private fleet of CNG-powered heavy-duty vehicles in the state of Michigan.

FCA US LLC announced today that it has invested $40 million in FCA Transport, the FCA US-owned truck fleet, to convert its 179 Detroit-based parts-haulers to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) rather than traditional diesel. Today, the first Ram 2500 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) pickup trucks began rolling off the line at Chrysler Group’s Satillo Truck Assembly Plant. Chrysler Group LLC, working in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), will deliver four demonstration fleet plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) Ram 1500 pickup trucks to the City of Auburn Hills, Mich. The PHEV Ram 1500 pickups, delivered by Abdullah Bazzi, senior manager of the Chrysler Group’s advanced hybrid vehicle project, are part of a national demonstration fleet of 140 vehicles that will be used during the next three years to evaluate customer usage, drive cycles, charging, thermal management, fuel economy, emissions and impact on the region’s electric grid.

California environmentalists have recognized Global Electric Motorcars, a Chrysler company, for its leadership in bringing environmentally-friendly technology to the state’s residents. The Fargo, North Dakota-based manufacturer received a Blue Sky 2007 Merit Award from WestStart-CALSTART for its “strong and enduring commitment to advanced transportation technology when many other companies were not even considering such options.” The company produces the nation’s best-selling street-legal all-electric, zero emission vehicles, the GEM.

More than 20 Dodge Sprinter Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) will be placed in the United States between now and the first quarter of 2008 as part of a test fleet program. Four of the vehicles are already in operation with customers. DaimlerChrysler is the only auto manufacturer currently evaluating a variety of plug-in hybrid powertrain configurations under customer-operation conditions in real-world service.

Since 1998, DaimlerChrysler has sold nearly 1.5 million flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) designed to run on E85 fuel. Beginning with the 2008 model year, DaimlerChrysler will produce nearly 500,000 FFVs per year for sale in the United States.
