World Class Manufacturing Accomplishments
Tipton Transmission was awarded silver status for its results in implementing World Class Manufacturing (WCM) on July 17, 2018, two years after reaching bronze. When it was awarded bronze, Tipton became the fastest North American plant to receive this designation, just over two years after starting production of the new nine-speed transmission in April 2014. WCM is a methodology that focuses on eliminating waste, increasing productivity, and improving quality and safety in a systematic and organized way. It engages the workforce to provide and implement suggestions on how to improve their jobs and their plants, promoting a sense of ownership.
